Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what personal information KayaShare collects, why, and how we protect it under South African law.
1. Who we are
KayaShare is the responsible party for personal information processed through this website, as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). You can reach our Information Officer via our contact page.
2. Information we collect
- Account details: name, surname, email address, phone number, age confirmation.
- Profile and preferences: area, budget, move-in date, lifestyle answers.
- Listing details and photos you upload.
- Verification information, such as ID documents or references, only if you choose to complete those steps.
- Messages you send us and basic technical data (device, browser, pages visited).
3. Why we use it
We process your information to run your account, show your profile or listing to other members, suggest compatible matches, verify members, keep the platform safe, respond to queries and complaints, and meet our legal obligations. We rely on your consent, the performance of our agreement with you, and our legitimate interests, as allowed by section 11 of POPIA.
4. Special personal information
We do not ask for information about race, religion, health, sexual orientation or criminal record. Please don't include it in your profile. ID numbers are only processed for verification and are never shown publicly.
5. Marketing
We only send marketing emails if you opt in, in line with section 69 of POPIA. Every message includes an option to unsubscribe, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
6. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with other members as needed for matching (based on what you choose to show), with trusted service providers such as hosting, email and verification partners who are bound to protect it, or when required by law.
7. Cross-border transfers
Some of our service providers may store data outside South Africa. We only use providers in countries or under agreements that give a level of protection similar to POPIA, as required by section 72.
8. Keeping it secure
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse or unauthorised access. If a security breach affects you, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
9. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. When you close your account, we delete or anonymise your information unless we must keep it for legal reasons.
10. Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, object to processing, and withdraw consent. Requests can be made via our contact page.
